FAQIs the experience here the same as stock ROM? Not quite. There is a huge bonus for the first 100 levels, a smaller bonus the next 100, no bonus from 202 to 400, and a small bonus again at 401. There is also a lower group penalty for other players in your group (although mobs still cost you the same amount of experience). I just died and went to get my corpse, but it's not there! Corpses go to a morgue, usually the same room you resurrect in. I've played ROM before, I don't need to go through mud school, right? Of course not, but then you'd miss out on some good starter eq. as the stats on much of the stuff has been improved. Also, you may try to find the Gimpville Mud School and get some really cool equipment in the basement. Be aware: the mobs in the bottom of GMS are very tough and you may die a couple of times first. Where is the XXXX area? Type "help directions" at the prompt for many low level areas. These directions also take you through some areas you'll want to level in later. There is also a shopkeeper that sells maps in Midgaard and there is a rough map that you can get to from the area or builder sections of this website. Wow! My etl is only 750? Yes, your race probably has some stats that are real low or a bad vulnerability so you have a low etl to compensate Wow! My etl is really high! This can be one or more of three things. One is that you have a really good race with a good resistance, or a good skill, or the max stats are high. The second is your race isn't really good at the class you choose. The third option is you have more than 40 creation points. You can find this out by typing "groups" at the prompt. You can use the "gain points" command at the sailor to lower them to 40, but it may be quicker to just recreate. How come XXXX levels so much faster than me? There are many factors involved. One is the mudder is more experienced at mudding or at this mud and knows the best areas to level. Another is that they have spent a lot of time questing and have lots of quest equipment which can give a big advantage, especially at the lower levels (see "help quest" on the game for more details). Other factors are hours of the player, rebirths, skills are at a higher percentage, and experience to level. Can I be a builder? Do you need builders? We definately need builders! Look at the Builder section of this website and then talk to Scourge or Clare on the game. Please note: we prefer that you play the mud for at least a couple of weeks before asking to build. Do you need coders? Not right now, wanna build instead? How many levels are there? We have a multi-tiered leveling system. The first tier is levels 1-101 and you may rebirth at level 101, putting you back at 10. When you rebirth 3 times you may go onto the next tier. After the first two rebirths, groups are available to you that were previously unavailable. The next range is 102-201, and this time you go through reawakening to get to the next tier. The third tier is 202-301 and you must pass throw renewal three times AND pass through advancement to go to the final range of 302-401. At 401, you stay at 401 but may gain superhero levels (up to 32000). There is also a remort option at 401, and if you have three remort, you gain Legend levels at certain superhero levels. For more info see our leveling page Is Scourge ever not AFK? Rumor has it that he occassionally is not AFK, but he is often online even if he shows up as AFK. Feel free to send him a tell or a note if you want. If it is during the evening, the best chance of reaching him is to send a "pray" with a brief message of why you want to talk to him. Glossary Mob - A monster controled by the computer. It is short for ":mobile", which probably doesn't make much sense unless you have been a builder on a DIKU derivitive MUD. Also known as an NPC (Non-Player Character) Chain spell - Named after "chain lightning", the original chain spell. Chain spells hit a bunch of targets in the room multiple times. The "chain" gets weaker with each hit until the spell stops all together. These spells turn on their caster if there aren't at least two mobs in the room. ETL - Experience To Level, how much experience you need for one level. Guides (written by players and immortals) |
